On July 11th, the world celebrates the most delicious holiday – Chocolate Day!

Chocolate was invented during the Aztec era.

In the Eastern Hemisphere, festive events, competitions and festivals will be held on July 11 to celebrate the Chocolate Day. In the U.S., in addition to the World Chocolate Day.  In the Western Hemisphere, more chocolate will be consumed on July 11th than all of the other days of the year – combined.  It’s a chocolapalooza!

Cacao has been cultivated for at least three millennia in Mexico, Central America and Northern South America. Its earliest documented use is around 1100 BC. The majority of the Mesoamericanpeople made chocolate beverages, including the Aztecs, who made it into a beverage known as xocolatl, a Nahuatl word meaning “bitter water”. The seeds of the cacao tree have an intense bitter taste, and must be fermented to develop the flavor.

Meanwhile, the U.N.’s chief medical doctor Jibani Jawari told reporters that chocolate has more benefits than most other foods on the planet.  ”Chocolate gets a bad reputation, but pure chocolate is better for humans than even vegetables.  If I had to choose between a piece of broccoli and a bar of chocolate, I would take the chocolate every time, because I’d know I was doing something good for my body”

The best thing to do on World Chocolate Day is to fill your bathtub with melted chocolate and than dip yourself in it  - all the while eating chocolate.  Remember, your body needs chocolate – every day – in order to survive and thrive!

WING WALKER WONDER WOMAN

A female daredevil dressed as Wonder Woman performs thousands of feet above ground just weeks after another wing walker died in a crash.

Ashley Battles, holds the world record for remaining on the wings of a plane for a staggering four hours and two minutes.

The 29-year-old performs with no safety net and is simply strapped onto a rack bolted to the wing span.

WWwonder_womanF

She performed at high altitude two weeks after fellow airborne stuntwoman Jane Wicker died when her biplane plummeted into the ground with her on the wing.

WWwonder_womanB

Ashley, who has clocked up over 100 flights so far in her career, bravely stepped onto her plane in Colinville, Oklahoma this weekend.

She admits that as she only uses the simplest safety gear, she relies heavily on her physical and mental strength when performing.

She said: ‘It takes someone who is able to flip a switch in their mind to wing walk; someone who is able to not think about how high off the ground they are or how close to the ground you get or how hard it can be to move along the wing.’

WWwonder_womanC

Fearless Ashely is faced with speeds up to 70 knots as she performs on the wings while the plane spirals, twists, loops and barrels above screaming crowds at up to 10 air shows a year.

The young dare devil has developed a way to cope with the pressure on high altitudes – listening to music.

She added: ‘When I am standing up there that long, I’m thinking about everything from what I get to eat later to just contemplating life. I’m also listening to my iPod.

‘There’s of course the danger of possible engine failure. Hitting a bird while a wing walker is atop the wings could be a pretty terrible event.

WWwonder_womanG

‘We do take every safety precaution that we can to make sure we stay safe in the air.’

Despite the risks, Battles has her husband and her parent’s full support.

Ashely said: ‘My husband thinks what I do is pretty neat so I am fortunate that he enjoys watching me wing walk. My mum would probably wing walk too if I’d let her.’

WWwonder_womanH

Some of the day-to-day hazards of her job include sore muscles, bruises, scrapes and hurt cheeks that get pummelled by the wind.

Ashley’s pilot, Greg Shelton, who flies the 450 Stearman airplane that Ashley performs on, forms the other half of their crack wing walking duo.

Greg said: ‘We had a show where I flew her through some big raindrops. Another time the engine quit with her on top and landed on the taxi way.’

FROZEN WOOLLY MAMMOTH

The carcass of Yuka, a Wooly Mammoth, who was found by a Siberian tusk hunter.

The juvenile mammoth was found entombed in Siberian ice near the shores of the Arctic Ocean and shows signs of being cut open by ancient people.

The remarkably well preserved frozen carcass was discovered in Siberia as part of a BBC/Discovery Channel-funded expedition and is believed to be at least 10,000 years old, if not older. If further study confirms the preliminary findings, it would be the first mammoth carcass revealing signs of human interaction in the region.

The carcass is in such good shape that much of its flesh is still intact, retaining its pink color. The blonde-red hue of Yuka’s woolly coat also remains.

“This is the first relatively complete mammoth carcass — that is, a body with soft tissues preserved — to show evidence of human association,” Daniel Fisher, curator and director of the University of Michigan’s Museum of Paleontology, told Discovery News.

Fisher, who is also a professor, worked with an international team of experts to analyze Yuka. French mammoth hunter Bernard Buigues of the scientific organization “Mammuthus” saved the specimen from falling into the hands of private collectors.

Although carbon dating is still in the works, the researchers believe Yuka died at least 10,000 years ago, but may be much older. The animal was about 2 ½ years old when it died.

Fisher described what likely happened on that fateful day:

“It appears that Yuka was pursued by one or more lions or another large field, judging from deep, unhealed scratches in the hide and bite marks on the tail,” Fisher said. “Yuka then apparently fell, breaking one of the lower hind legs. At this point, humans may have moved in to control the carcass, butchering much of the animal and removing parts that they would use immediately.

“They may, in fact, have reburied the rest of the carcass to keep it in reserve for possible later use. What remains now would then be ‘leftovers’ that were never retrieved.”

He explained that the removed parts include most of the main core mass of Yuka’s body, including organs, vertebrae, ribs, associated musculature, and some of the meat from upper parts of the legs. The lower parts of each leg and the trunk remain intact.

Buigues added that it appears the humans were particularly interested in the animal’s fat and its large bones, which they kept close to the body of the carcass. He believes it is possible that a ritual may have taken place involving the bones.

Kevin Campbell of the University of Manitoba also studied Yuka. Campbell famously published the genetic code of mammoth hemoglobin a few years ago.

“Most permafrost-preserved mammoth specimens consist solely of bones or bone fragments that currently provide little new insight into the species’ biology in life, even if DNA can be extracted and sequenced from these samples,” Campbell said. “This extremely rare finding of a near complete specimen, like the discovery of the baby mammoth Lyuba in 2007, will be a boon to researchers as it will help them link observed phenotypes (morphological features that we can see) with genotype (DNA sequences).”

Such information could help reveal whether or not mammoths had all of the same hair colors that humans do. An intriguing and controversial application would be to bring a mammoth back to life via cloning.

Campbell supports pursuit of that goal, saying it “may well lead to important new discoveries in bioengineering.” Buigues is also in favor and said, “I’m not against having a mammoth in my garden in future.”

Tim Walker, producer and director of a forthcoming BBC/Discovery Channel show called “Wooly Mammoth” that will feature Yuka, told Discovery News that cloning a mammoth could take years or even decades.

“Then, if it did happen, wouldn’t a single mammoth be lonely and sad?” he asked. “They were, after all, communal animals.”

A sinkhole swallowed a car with a woman inside on Wednesday in Toledo, Ohio, police said.

A woman drove her car into an Ohio sinkhole!

Pamela Knox, 60, was driving around noon when she noticed the car ahead of her was sinking but had managed to make it over a collapsing sinkhole, officials said.

Police Sergeant Joe Heffernan told the Toledo Blad that Knox couldn’t also escape the developing hole when she drove over it.

Knox was eventually able to climb out with the help of a ladder and was not hurt but rattled, said Heffernan. She was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution, he said.

According to the Toledo Blade, the car was removed from the gaping hole around 4:00 p.m. and the next step will be to repair the street, which could take four to five days.

“I’m just happy that as I understand, she walked herself out [of the hole],” Mr. Bell said. “We had a lot of rain lately and something must have washed out under the road,” Toledo Mayor Mike Bell, told the Blade.

A city spokesman said the hole was a result of collapsed sanitary and storm sewers and estimated to be 10 feet deep.

Elaine Silets  has built the largest model train display in the world.

Silets recently opened her train gardens to the public and thousands train lovers came by to look at her train set.

Her work with trains has been seen in the Nieman Marcus Christmas book, in the lobby of Chicago’s Hancock Center, and in Tiffany & Co. window displays.

Eleven model trains chug about the lavish gardens all-year round.

The half-inch G-scale trains ply a Japanese water garden with waterfalls, a pond garden, rose gardens, a Snoopy topiary built especially for Silets’ grandsons, and other floral landscapes.

She also has a private train museum on her property.  The Harvey M. Silets Memorial museum was built in honor of the Train Lady’s husband, a famous attorney who once represented Jimmy Hoffa. The museum is a scaled down replica of Greater Chicago that has 16 trains of its own, a drive-in movie theatre, and other transit-related exhibits like elevated trains and subway trains.

FOURTH OF JULY ALIEN INVASION

AppId is over the quota

WASHINGTON, DC – Alien warriors for Planet Gootan planned to attack Earth today, but the invasion has been averted – thanks to President Obama’s secret negotiations!

“From all indications, the invasion is off,” said a high-ranking administration official.  ”President Obama is fully engaged with the Gootans.”

“The talks are continuing, but for now we believe the danger is over.”

Weekly World News first reported that an invasion was planned after scientists intercepted and translated a radio transmission from space in 2012.

The brief message was decoded by an international team of scientists led by Dr. Gerhard Schultz, who said the transmission was intended for alien scouts already involved in pre-strike activities on Earth.

“Make no mistake about it – aliens from Planet Gootan have served mankind with a declaration of war,” Dr. Schultz said in 2012. “They are already on their way.”

Dr. Schultz said the message indicated that the aliens would invade Earth on July 4, 2013. Other scientists interpreted the message to say the intruders from Planet Gootan would be bringing a “large battalion of fighter spacecraft.”

U.S. officials have worked feverishly to find a way to avert the attack – going so far as to open negotiations with an envoy from the distant planet.

Weekly World News reported in 2007 that former President George W. Bush had met several times with an alien from an unknown world. Sources subsequently revealed that the peace-loving alien was serving as a go-between for Bush and the invaders.

bushjralien

The same alien, who backed Obama in the elections, later helped him negotiate with the attackers – and even took the newly elected President on a top-secret ride in a spaceship to meet their leader.  Since then the U.N. Panel on Extraterrestrials has confirmed that the alien is from Planet Gootan.

alienendorsesobama

“Without the efforts of the friendly alien from Planet Gootan, we would be bracing for a devastating attack,” said the White House aide. It is believe the aliens were going to use the chaos and distraction of July 4th fireworks to descend quickly into our atmosphere.

But Earth’s good fortune may doom another planet in a remote area of the Milky Way.

“These alien warriors are no saints,” the aide said. “They have been traveling for many years to get here and they aren’t about to just turn around and go home without attacking somebody.

“Unfortunately, another poor planet in another solar system is likely to suffer the wrath of these intergalactic death merchants.”

200 YEARS REDFISH

A fish of 200 years took in Alaska.

A redfish 39.08 books taken by an adjuster in Seattle June 21 is the oldest fish ever caught in the State, according to a report of local media.

200rockfishC

Henry Liebman wrapped in catches of record setting to a depth of about 900 feet and learned of his success when he brought the beast ashore.

"I knew that it was abnormally large but did not know it was a record up to that on the way back, we looked in the book guide Alaska who was on the boat," Liebman said the Sitka Sentinel Daily.

The ancient monster was 41 inches, breaking the previous record, set by a 32 and a half inch guppie, Troy Tidingco, Sitka area manager for the Alaska Department of Fish and game, told the newspaper.

I knew that it was abnormally big (but i) did not know it was a record up to that on the way back, we looked in the guide Alaska book which was on the boat, "Liebman said in the journal.

Troy Tidingco, Sitka area manager for the state Department of Fish and game, said the fish is still being analyzed, but he believes it is at least 200 years old. Tidingco said that would beat the current record of 175 years. Researchers are able to determine the age of a shortraker by the number of rings along his bones in the ear.

200rockfishB

In 2007, a commercial fisherman captured a similar size redfish, which has proven to be 115 years. Surprisingly, researchers from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association say that the fish was always fertile at the time of his capture. 'Belly was great, "researcher Paul Spencer of the NOAA told the Associated Press. "The ovaries were full of developing embryos."

Liebman told the newspaper that he plans to have the fish mounted at home in Seattle, but he gave the Alaska Department of Fish and game with a sample for his age could be determined.

Tidingco noted that, if the fish is actually as old vintage, it would easily predate the purchase of Alaska in 1867.

Fish is prior to the purchase of American of Alaska from Russia, which took place in 1867. Sitka, according to the local historical society, has been the site of the ceremony commemorating the transfer of Alaska from the Russia in the United States later this year.

If unusually large Liebman capture is not the biggest fish ever to come out of the ocean. That distinction belongs to a tuna transported from the Atlantic ocean off the coast of Nova Scotia in 1979. Captured by anglers Ken Fraser, the big tuna weighed a staggering books 1 496, Fraser has even written a book on catches which he sells on his personal site.

The ocean the largest known fish is the whale shark, according to National Geographic. Mega fish has been known to grow as big as a city bus - length 40 feet - and more than 20 tons in weight on average. Discovered off the coast of South Africa in 1828, the whale shark usually lives about 70 years, according to FishBase.
